Who is responsible for your data

Hiker’s Life (hikers.life) is run by a small team of hobby hikers. You can reach the people responsible for your data at privacy [at] hikers [dot] life. Please use that address for any question or request about your data.

What we collect right now

The site is currently in a “coming soon” phase. The only personal data we collect from visitors is:

• Your email address, if you choose to join the early-access list, together with the date and time you joined.

We do not ask for your name or any other detail.

Why we collect it, and our legal basis

We use your email address for one purpose: to let you know when Hiker’s Life opens and to offer you early access. Our legal basis is your consent, which you give by entering your email and joining the list. You can take that consent back at any time (see “Your choices and your rights” below).

Cookies and technical data

Like any website, our hosting keeps basic technical logs to keep the site running and secure. Our legal basis for this is our legitimate interest in operating a safe, working site. We use only essential cookies needed for features you actively use (for example, remembering that you have unlocked a password-protected trip page you were invited to). We do not use advertising, analytics, or third-party tracking cookies.

Who else can see your data

To run the site we use a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf:

• Railway hosts the site and the database where your email is stored.
• Resend sends email on our behalf (for example, to tell us about a new sign-up, and in future to send you your confirmation and early-access messages).
• Cloudflare provides the site’s domain routing and content delivery.

These providers are based in, or may process data in, countries outside the European Economic Area, including the United States. Where that happens, they operate under the standard data-protection safeguards offered for such transfers. We do not sell your data or share it with anyone for their own marketing.

How long we keep it

We keep your email until Hiker’s Life launches and we have invited you, or until you ask us to remove it, whichever comes first. If the project is discontinued, we delete the list.

Your choices and your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to ask us to show you the data we hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and to withdraw your consent at any time. To do any of these, just email privacy [at] hikers [dot] life and we will act on your request. You also have the right to complain to the Dutch data protection authority, the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens (autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Account features

Full accounts, trip journals, and photo uploads are not open to the public yet. When they open, we will update this policy to explain how that data is handled.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
